Hello! Southern Pennsylvania Clay welcomes you to join our 7-Week Adult Classes! Below is some information about this upcoming course. This class will be taught by Instructor Corey.
 
CLASS DATE & TIME : 
Wednesday Evenings in November & December, 2026, 6:00PM-8:30PM
(***Class #3 DOES NOT MEET AT 6:00PM. IT MEETS AT 6:30PM***)
 
***THIS CLASS IS NOT A BEGINNERS COURSE! YOU NEED AT LEAST A 7-WEEK CLASS WORTH OF EXPERIENCE (at my studio or from another studio) TO TAKE THIS COURSE. INTERMEDIATE TO ADVANCED TECHNIQUES ARE TAUGHT***
 
This class occurs over a 7 week time period, meeting once per week for the entire 7 week duration. You will receive tools and instruction from a Southern PA Clay instructor! The instructor leads the class through the creation and construction of several ceramic objects throughout the duration of your 7 week class. The number of pieces made varies based on experience, outside practice time, interest, and commitment! We spend less than 1/3 of the course making vessels on the wheel. Some classes we will throw, but most classes you will need to come with pieces already made, leather hard etc.. You are welcome and encouraged to use the studio to make your wares. If you need to use the SPAC studio BEFORE the actual class starts to create your wares, connect with me directly! It is expected.
 
There will be a mix of wheel throwing and handbuilding to work on the various appendages associated with clay work in this class. Participants will learn to make several different styles of handles in several sizes, 3-4 different types of lids and several knob styles, different spouts to complement various pouring pot bodies, lugs, and more! More topics are sure to come up in class and will be touched on as they surface.
You are welcome to bring your own clay to use for class, or you can purchase new clay from the SPAC studio for $1.00 per pound (reclaim costs .75 cents/lb). After the class has ended, your work will be slowly and safely bisque fired to Cone 06 for you to pick up later. After your work is bisque fired, if you would like to use SPAC glazes and the studio to finish your pieces, that option is available to you for free. Finally, I let you know once the final firing is completed!

Class 1 - November 11, 6:00PM-8:30PM
15 Minute Meet & Greet
15 Minute "Piece of Pottery" Discussion
15 Minute Discussion of 7 Week Class
15 Minute Appendages Discussion
1 Hour Demonstrate Throwing/Handbuilding pot bodies. Smaller cylinders for various pouring vessels and mug forms. Medium and larger cylinders for pitchers and various other pouring pots. Open Studio time to follow.
 
Class 2 - November 18, 6:00PM-8:30PM
2 Hour 30 Minute Class + 10 Minute Cleanup
This day will consist of handles! Not only will we discuss the styles, we will experiment with attachments, decorations, and finishing steps/additions.
Extruded Handles, Cut Handles, Strap Handles, Pulled Handles, Pinched Handles
 
Class 3 - November 25, 6:30PM-9:00PM
2 Hour 30 Minute Class + 10 Minute Cleanup 
This day will consist of handles! Not only will we discuss the styles, we will experiment with attachments, decorations, and finishing steps/additions. We will also discuss lugs.
 
Class 4 - December 2, 6:00PM-8:30PM
2 Hour 30 Minute Class + 10 Minute Cleanup
This day will be all about containers! We will discuss various shaped jars and their purposes. We will discuss and experiment with 1 piece jars, various lid and knob styles, and handles/lugs to accent our containers.
 
Class 5 - December 9, 6:00PM-8:30PM
2 Hour 30 Minute Class + 10 Minute Cleanup 
This day will be all about containers! We will discuss various shaped jars and their purposes. We will discuss and experiment with 1 piece jars, various lid and knob styles, and handles/lugs to accent our containers.
 
Class 6 - December 16, 6:00PM-8:30PM
2 Hour 30 Minute Class + 10 Minute Cleanup
This day will be spent making spouts. We will see squeezed, pulled and pinched spouts, cut spouts, added spouts, teapot spouts, thrown spouts, and finishing techniques.
 
Class 7 - December 23, 6:00PM-8:30PM
2 Hour 30 Minute Class + 10 Minute Cleanup
This day will be spent making spouts and finalizing any of the pieces made during the entirety of the class. We will see squeezed, pulled and pinched spouts, cut spouts, added spouts, teapot spouts, thrown spouts, and finishing techniques.
 
Tools, instruction, glaze and firings Included!
 
Full 7-Week Adult Classes come with open studio time! During the 7 weeks, you are allowed to practice outside of class time, in the studio, as often as you like. These sessions have to fall between 12PM and 8PM. ***We will discuss this topic specifically in the first class***
 
The Instructor reserves the right to cancel a class due to low enrollment! If the class has low enrollment, there is a possibility of it being canceled.
 
Please note that in order to work on the potter’s wheel, you need to have your fingernails clipped! Having fingernails any longer than 1/8" makes the process incredibly difficult. If, in taking this class, you wish to experience making the pieces yourself, we suggest clipping your nails. If you do show up for class with long fingernails, we will make it work!
